New Partnership introduced at Ignite 2025: Announce Strategic Collaboration among Three Giants Unite: Microsoft, NVIDIA & Anthropic

The new three-way alliance marks a fresh chapter in the AI era. Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Anthropic have unveiled a set of deep partnerships that, together, look more like the formation of an AI bloc.

Anthropic will dramatically scale the Claude family of models on Microsoft Azure, running on NVIDIA’s underlying architecture. This gives Azure enterprise customers Claude as a frontier‑class option alongside other leading models, plus new capabilities built specifically around Claude. 

What’s appealing about their strategic partnership?  

Anthropic is ramping up its Claude family on Microsoft Azure, using NVIDIA’s hardware as the backbone. This expansion is meant to make Claude far more accessible and to give Azure enterprise customers a richer set of frontier models and new Claude-specific capabilities to build on. 

To secure that growth, Anthropic has agreed to buy 30 billion dollars’ worth of Azure compute and can extend that commitment up to one gigawatt of capacity. This is a massive long-term bet on Azure as a primary execution platform for Claude and Anthropic’s next-generation workloads. 

For the first time, NVIDIA and Anthropic are also entering into a deep technical partnership aimed squarely at Anthropic’s future scaling. The two companies will work side by side on model and system design so that Claude runs with the best possible performance, efficiency, and total cost of ownership, while future NVIDIA architectures are shaped with Anthropic’s needs in mind. 

In practical terms, Anthropic’s initial compute commitment with NVIDIA focuses on up to one gigawatt of capacity built on Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems. That gives Anthropic a dedicated path to NVIDIA’s most advanced data center platforms, rather than competing for generic GPU capacity on the open market. 

On the application side, Microsoft and Anthropic are widening their existing collaboration so that more businesses can reach Claude through Microsoft’s ecosystem. Customers of Microsoft Foundry will be able to use Anthropic’s frontier models Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5 when building production applications and enterprise agents on Azure. 

Because Claude is already present on other major clouds, this move makes it the only frontier model available across all three of the world’s leading hyperscale platforms. For Azure customers, that translates into more choice at the model layer and the ability to tap into Claude specific strengths without leaving their existing Azure environment. 

Microsoft is also committed to keeping Claude integrated across its Copilot product family. That includes GitHub Copilot for developers, Microsoft 365 Copilot for knowledge workers, and Copilot Studio for building custom copilots and agents, ensuring Claude remains part of the default AI experience in Microsoft’s productivity stack. 

Financially, the alliance is underpinned by significant direct investment. NVIDIA plans to invest up to 10 billion dollars in Anthropic, and Microsoft will add up to 5 billion dollars of its own. Those commitments give Anthropic a substantial capital base to fund model training, infrastructure, and research over the coming years. 

The announcement brought together Anthropic co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang. Their joint appearance underscored that this is not a narrow commercial contract, but a strategic alignment intended to shape how infrastructure, models, and enterprise AI platforms evolve in the next phase of the AI era.

The day has come, Microsoft and Anthropic announced a major expansion to their partnership, making Claude Sonnet 4.5, Haiku 4.5, and Opus 4.1 models available in public preview within Microsoft Foundry. Now, Azure customers can leverage these state-of-the-art models to build production applications and enterprise agents directly in their existing cloud environment. 

This move gives organizations the ability to tap into Claude’s best-in-class models for coding, agent workflows, and office tasks without leaving the Microsoft ecosystem. Developers can also access Claude through Microsoft Foundry using Claude Code, a dedicated AI coding agent designed to simplify and accelerate development. 

Deep Integration with Microsoft 365 Copilot and Excel 

Claude is already integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot, where it powers the Researcher agent for advanced, multi-step research and supports custom agent creation in Copilot Studio. Now, with the preview launch of Agent Mode in Excel, users can use Claude to generate formulas, analyze data, spot errors, and iterate on solutions, directly within their spreadsheets. 

These integrations are designed to reduce friction for enterprises that have previously faced long procurement cycles due to separate vendor agreements. With Claude now available as part of the Microsoft stack, adoption becomes much faster and easier. 

Build with Claude in Microsoft Foundry 

Developers building on Microsoft Foundry can deploy Claude using serverless APIs, letting Anthropic handle all infrastructure management. These deployments support immediate getting started, streamlined usage under existing Microsoft enterprise contracts and billing, and SDK support for Python, TypeScript, and C# with Entra-based authentication. 

Claude in Foundry is eligible for Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC), allowing customers to apply their current Azure agreements, with no need for separate vendor approval. The Global Standard deployment is available now, with a US DataZone launching soon. 

Choosing the Best Claude Model for Your Needs 

Azure customers can pick from Claude's leading models in Foundry to fit different business challenges. Sonnet 4.5 is ideal for enterprise-grade coding and building complex workflows that require advanced reasoning and multi-agent orchestration. Haiku 4.5, optimized for speed and cost, is best for high-volume tasks like customer support automation, content moderation, or real-time coding help. Opus 4.1 shines in specialized, deeply analytical workloads that demand sustained focus. 

All these models come with access to additional tools and enhanced features, such as secure code execution, web search, data fetching, citations, built-in vision capabilities, prompt caching, and a range of other agentic functionalities. Developers will find extensive documentation and support for integrating Claude into mission-critical applications on Azure

With these upgrades, the partnership between Microsoft and Anthropic offers enterprises a new level of AI capability, streamlining deployment, integration, and innovation within the familiar Microsoft environment.
